who are sikhs ?

If we have to say that who are Sikhs? The simple answer could be, those who follow Guru’s teachings are Sikhs. The meaning of the word Sikh is a disciple. According to Sikhism, every living being consists of the divine light of God. Our ultimate aim is to make ourselves spiritually high to a standard so that our divine light can get immerge in the almighty. Sikhs are the disciple of the Guru who links them to the one God. Guru tells the Sikhs to travel on the path of Sikhism to reach God. The path of Sikhism is the path of honesty, truthfulness, equality for all, remembering God at every moment, thinking about the welfare of all and acting accordingly, and many more.READ MORE >>>>>

When a Sikh, while trying to walk on the path of Sikhism, feels that he is ready enough to enter the next stage, he gets baptized with a ritual (which is being followed from the tenth Guru’s time) and becomes Khalsa. Khalsa means which is directly under God and there is no third person in between. Khalsa also means pure. Khalsa is pure from evils of the world like greediness of any worldly material. Apart from the teachings of Guru, there are five other integral parts of a Khalsa. These are known as five K’s also. Five K’s provides unity and uniformity among Sikhs. These apply to men and women equally. Those are as follows.

Kesh – (Hairs) – Sikhs are ought to keep their natural body hairs without cutting. Hairs symbolize holiness and purity. For the head hairs, Sikhs are given turban by Guru. Before the right to wear a turban was only with kings and the so-called upper casts. Sikhs are totally against the cast system because the cast system is based on inequality by birth and believes that this inequality cannot be normal. Sikhism is totally against it, equality is one of the basic principles of Sikhism. So, Guru ordered Sikhs to take care of their hair and wear turban. Guru had given equal opportunities to all and a unique identity to Sikhs.
Kara – (Iron rings in hand) – Sikhs need to wear Kara in their hands. The Kara is a reminder to a Sikh that he can’t do anything which God doesn’t approve of. The Kara is made up of Iron which means that it’s not an ornament like gold or silver and due to the abundance of iron, it’s available to a common man. The round shape of Kara also symbolizes that God has no start and no end. Kara limits the acts of a Sikh and makes him choose those acts only which are good at morality.
Kangha – (Wooden comb) – This is to take care of the hairs which are God’s gift. This symbolizes that we should respect and take care of the gift given by God.
Kirpan – (A sword) – The Kirpan can be worn under or over the cloths. Kirpan fulfills the concept of a soldier in Saint-Soldier. Kirpan is to deliver the justice of God and stop the cruelty. The Kirpan symbolizes power also which is to defend weak and goodness. Sikhism takes Kirpan as the last resort.
Kashehra – (Special stitched underwear) – Kashehra symbolizes purity in character. Sikhs are strictly ordered by Guru to be within moral and character boundaries. Kashehra reminds Sikhs about their limits.
